Growing in to Grown Up

An Open Letter to the People Living Above Me | August 16, 2009

Dear Neighbors in Apt. 208:

I understand that you take pleasure in having a good time. Really, who doesn’t enjoy a rockin’ night on the town? I’m young…I fully get the need to loosen up a little, have a brew, enjoy your friends and maybe even dance a little. We’ve all been there.

However, when I get home, I also like to respect the people in surrounding apartments. I try not to turn up the stereo or have jumping dance sessions above the neighbor’s bedroom. No one likes pieces of plaster falling from the ceiling onto their face at 4:15 am.  Even on a Saturday night (read: Sunday morning). In this case, no T.I., you cannot have Whatever You Like.

Call me uptight, call me a fun-hater, in fact, call me “Whatever You Like”, but I for one, am loving nothing about being woken up in the middle of the night. During weekends, it’s tolerable…I’ll just blog about it. I have no problem going all Mr. Heckles on you and knocking on the ceiling with the broom to ask you to turn it down a notch. But do you think we could start refraining during the week?

Great! It’s appreciated.

And while we’re discussing how thin the walls are… I get that your love life is spectacular. Maybe the girlfriend/wife/fiance/lover could keep it down a little? Yes, Paul, I realize we’ve never met. In fact, I’m not even sure you’re the tenant…but if I hear your name screamed one more time repeatedly from 9pm till 6 am EVERY SINGLE DAY, somebody is going to lose a first born child.

Comprende? Fantastic. Glad we’re on the same page.

Best,
Your downstairs neighbor
